Oysterz Large White Wood and Glass Wall Decorations

These striking pieces are wall installations that reveal striking compositions of marked curvatures that refer to their own nature. They are made up of colored circular glass centers that seem to expand both in material and in shape to deformed figures from slices of tree branches. This project was thought out with the intention of marrying two materials in a way that not only makes sense, but also enhances the visual impact of both.

Taken some of their most precious woods, hand selecting each tree, analyzing and selecting the best to cut them. The end result are oyster-like cuts that show the growth cycle of the tree. The ring around the glass circle represent the years of the trees life.

Cellz, the core of the Oysters, are these concentric circles that Orfeo creates by fabricating glass plywood with layers of color and clear that are then core drilled after being fused into a 4” thick block. Much like a soil sample taken from the earth. These cylinders then are placed back into the oven and heated to 1600 degrees where they pool into flat circular forms. After cooling they are hand ground and polished revealing the subtle variations of the overlapping rings.

The concept is the representation of these organisms through the use of color and superposition, managing to present different layers of tones in a single cell.

The Cellz are integrated into the elegant wood slices of wood that result in a harmonious combination. The cell nuclei represents the first years of the sapling tree, while the outer wood rings represent the maturing process. Contrast between the different finishes of the wood and the movements caused by their age make these pieces something beautiful and out of the ordinary.

Oysters are part of a collaboration that unites both talents to apply knowledge, materials and technique in fascinating decorative elements. They combine to overlap due to the various depths to create groups of wall art.
